Although Suri is well known throughout the United States and the world now and continuing to be improved, the commercial being analyzed is one of the commercials first introductions of Suri. She is asked several questions throughout the commercial by many people, including different ethnicities and ages. Apple is obviously advertising her for adults, but they also show that she is easy enough for children to use. The girl in the video asks Suri what a weasel looks like because she is curious. Each person has a unique question pertaining to the situation they are in. Not only is she shown to be resourceful and useful, she can be talked to like a knowledgeable friend. We all even refer to her as a “she” even though we know that she is an animated voice within a program. Although not shown in the commercial, she is able to tell jokes and can be like a friend within your iPhone.
Apple makes their products very simple. The complexity of the software in iPods or iPhones are made to be user-friendly, such as Suri. In reality Suri does not respond as quickly as she does in the scene where the women asks where a local locksmith is, but the commercial glorifies the software, showing it to be very useful and efficient. She is able to answer a question such as what is the weather like or she is able to help you locate help in emergency situations. She is also able to manage your schedule like a personal secretary. These are only the beginnings of what this program is capable of, however.
Apple is always able to grab the attention of their audience with their flashy, bold ads. Not only are they able to use creative ways to market their products with the dancing silhouettes holding iPods or their Mac vs. Microsoft commercials, they show how their products work. The simplicity of the commercial, compared to most Apple commercials, is an effective way to advertise the new iPhone. They focus on this one program, but there were several new features to the iPhone. Suri is a marketable, impressive program. She gives a clear edge and reason to buy the iPhone over any other smartphone. Just curious here but now that Steve Jobs, the father of Apple products, is gone, do you think Apple will be able to come up with new, creative ideas to market their new products? What about new products in general?
This do-all program is a superior selling point that is a very original idea, designed by Apple. She is very flexible with all that she can help someone with. But is it really as helpful as the commercial shows? Does someone really need her to do all of the things she is able to do or is she for convenience? Anyone with an iPhone find themselves frequently using Suri to help them maintain their hectic schedule or to help find things?
Siri is definitely a revolutionary product, even in our technologically advanced day and age. It's ability to be spoken to as if it was a person is awesome. That being said, I don't believe that Siri is a necessary tool for everyday life. We as people got by perfectly fine before the introduction of Siri, and I think most of us will still be fine without her. But, she definitely has a convenience factor to her. If you're not able to get to a computer or phone book, for example, you have a device at your hands that can get you any type of information you may need. Apple did a good job of showing that in the commercial. As stated in the blog, the commercial shows many different people (ages and races) with different dilemmas that they need answers to. Siri is able to show its competence and flexibility in each of these siuations. I don't believe that Apple's string of original ideas will stop with the death of Steve Jobs. New and brilliant minds enter that company every day which increases the chance that those new workers will come up with the next game-changing product in years to come.
ReplyDeleteI myself have an iPhone 4s and do in fact have access to Siri, and sometimes use the software whenever I am having trouble looking for something online. However, I do not think Siri itself is all that revolutionary itself because it is not a necessary thing to have or use. It is more of a luxury based item that users can use when feeling like they need to change up the way that they go about using their iPhones. Also, other phones, such as Android platform ones, are also using something similar to Siri. In terms of the commercial, it did a fantastic job of portraying people in their normal daily routines having to use Siri for relevant things such as setting an alarm and writing down grocery lists. It related the software to the user in a very good way. As stated before in the previous comment, I believe that Apple will in fact continue to evolve as years pass and come up with stuff that is much more remarkable than that of which Siri has to offer.
ReplyDeleteConsidering I do not own an iPhone, I have honestly never heard of Suri until this commercial. Also, since I don't own an iPhone and don't plan to get one any time soon, thi commercial was not particularly appealing to me. However, I think Apple did an excellent job markeing the Suri application of the iPhone via this commercial. Like said in the blog, this commercial made the application seem extremely convenient and useful in the given situations. It's amazing how technological our world has become. Back in the day, if you got locked out of your house, you would have to go to the neighbor's, use the phone, and call someone to let you in. Now, with Suri, all you have to do is ask her about the locksmith. This commercial did an phenomenal job marketing their product to those people who enjoy and/or own Apple products.
ReplyDeleteI think that this advertisement aiming to show how the new iphone 4s can be useful in every day life. By showing the little girl asking to what a weasel looks like, it is exemplifying how simple Siri is to operate. I do not think that Siri is something that we all need in our every day life. I have the iphone 4 and would not upgrade just to have Siri. This specific tool is just a glorified search engine. It is just as easy and only takes a couple minutes more to google something myself on my iphone. The commercial was effective in grabbing my attention and interesting me with the abilities that Siri has. It is amazing that we have technology such as Siri that is accessible to most everyone.
ReplyDeleteSteve Jobs was simply the mastermind behind the original idea, most of what's new in the Iphone wasn't his idea, Apple has a whole R & D department dedicated to it. I've never owned an Iphone, but i know people who have and they love Siri. Siri is more of a convience, but a very useful one. If i ever got an Iphone, i would definetly use Siri to help me stay organized and find things. This comercial was nice and simple, a great way of advertising their product, it got the point across quickly and efficiently.
ReplyDeleteI think the intention of this commercial was just to sow one of the really cool features their product can do. Apple has consistently been coming out with the newest, high-tec things that everyone seems to love. I am an owner of the iPhone 4 (not 4s) and I am very satisfied without having Siri. Siri is just an extra feature to help search for something without having to do it yourself. However, that can become very helpful, and the fact you can talk to your phone and it respond to you just shows how powerful this product, and furthermore, Apple Inc. is. This commercial helped amp how cool Apple products are. I think As sad as it is, I still think Apple will be able to come up with new ideas without Steve. Steve was the father of the company, but he still has many other people in the company to help it succeed.

ReplyDeleteI have an iPhone and I am completely obsessed with it. I really love Siri as well. I definitely refer to her as a she, often asking her personal questions with my friends to see what she'll say. The most I've gotten out of her was what her favorite color was. I like this commercial and I saw this before I got my iPhone, and it only made me want it more! I think Apple always has cool, yet simple, commercials to advertise their products. I think this commercial appeals to anyone who's interested in technology and especially those interested in Apple products. Of course, with the iPhone being so expensive, not everyone can afford it, which is a drawback.
I believe that most commercials, including this one, have some extent of exaggeration added to them. Not all commercials accurately show how well something works. I'm sure using Suri is not as easy as picking up the phone and telling it something and it automatically helps you out. But the idea of the commercial is to get people to want to buy it, so they have to make it seem as efficient as possible. I don't believe that she is completely necessary to get by in life, but it would be a nice thing to have for a lot of people. Everybody nowadays wants things to be as quick and as easy as possible and this is just the invention that people have been waiting for. As far as Apple and their commercials go, the technology created by Apple is never going to come to an end- there will always be something new and exciting. And along with these new inventions, I believe the commercials will also evolve to go along with their new technology.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy the iphone but I don't think I would ever use siri if I had one. I think technology is controling too much of out lives and now we don't ask others questions, we ask a phone. Apple has to make the product in the commercial work and look better than it really does to get you to buy it just like food in commercials looks better than it does when you order it. I think apple will be fine without Jobs because they have enough people employed to have someone with good ideas and keep coming out with new products.
ReplyDeleteI myself have an I-phone and I find myself using Siri almost never. To be honest I only ever use it to show off that my phone actually can have somewhat of a conversation with me, but even then Siri can hardly understand what I'm saying. I never really looked into how much Jobs actually did with Apple but I'm sure he didn't come up with all of the ideas. I think Apple will do just fine without Jobs and be just as creative. The commercial shows Siri being fairly simple to use, I agree to an extent that some features about Siri are easy to use but overall she most of the time doesn't know what I'm talking about. I'm indifferent when it comes to Siri but I think the commercial advertises the uses very well to people who do not yet own an I-phone.
ReplyDeleteSiri is definitely a new and interesting addition to the smart phone and seems to be the beginning of a new frontier for smart phones. The technology required to make Siri is tremendous and is going to be hard to top by competing smart phones. She is like a personal secretary that customizes to your every need. I think that the only place for this technology to go is up. Companies will keep making the Siri function better and better until our world achieves artificial intelligence. Now this might not occur in our lifetime but it seems like we are definitely getting close. Also, this commercial does a very good job advertising Siri. They make Siri seem simple because the common consumer wants simplicity.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this commercial is not effective compared with commercials of other companies. Apple tried to show a lot of usefulness of Suri but it doesn't seem to be attractive. Originally, Apple has been good at making what doesn't exist but people desire. Such as iPhone, iPad make people be crazy about Apple. It was possible because they are very creative and revolutionary. The biggest problem of this commercial is exaggerating Suri. In contrary to the commercial, in reality, Suri can't do these all things fast. It is obvious that Suri is also creative invention of Apple but Suri can't help people like the commercial. Overall the commercial is also not much different with other commercials. Such things make me feel this commercial is boring. Because Apple represents creativity and revolution, I feel this commercial is much more boring and normal.
ReplyDeletei agree with the above posts and i thought it was interesting how they only show the people from the nose down. People usually connect with others through their eyes. Apple takes this out of the commercial to force the viewer to focus on the phone and siri. In a strange way this allows the viewer to relate to the commercial. The people don't have faces so it could be them in every situation. They get to see how helpful siri could be to them.
